What Lies ahead?

The way is getting more difficult.
More briers and thorns that poke and scrape.
Mountains steep and valleys deeper still.
 
What lies ahead is shrouded in obscurity.
We scan the sky and distant recesses 
in search of the first signs of morning.
 
There is a shaking taking place in hearts,
a separation between the giver and taker,
between those seeking and those who resist.
 
A mighty battle rages for the inner man.
One seeks to satisfy selfish desires,
the other seeks the giving ways of God.
 
One feeds on the ways of this world,
the other feeds on the bread of life
and drinks from the offered cup of wine.
 
It is becoming very clear which side we seek.
Do we recognize it within our developing self?
Or are we still among the ones pretending?
